irreplaceable library ( Miguel Ortiz March 12, 2010)
After a few days that his health had deteriorated substantially, Miguel Delibes's family announced his death at age 89. With it we'll be the last of the great figures of the twentieth century, an author who, while dodging the censor, enriched the English language combining as one standard English and Castilian provinces.
Miguel Delibes (who was born in Valladolid in 1920) is, without doubt, one of the great novelists of our history. With only 27 received the Premio Nadal, by the shadow of the cypress is long (1947), its first novel. Three years later he wrote the book that every teen is forced to read (and every adult to read again) the wonderful and peerless El Camino (1950). In 55 is worthy of the National Fiction Award for Diary of a hunter, an award that he won again in 1999 by The Hereje.En 1982 he received the Prince of Asturias Award for Letters and in 1984 the Award for Letters of Castile and Leon, is Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Republic (1985). In 1991 he was awarded the National Prize for English Literature and two years later finally received the Cervantes Prize. Just missed the Nobel prize but certainly deserved eluded him.
Miguel Delibes's contribution goes beyond the literary. He was to become the English literary renaissance after a bleak period after the Civil War, his work has improved and dignified the English language, respecting both the urban and rural speech, letting his characters speak as they would if there really, not as a subject of fiction.
